my white room

i never saw a moor—
i never saw the sea—
yet know i how the heather looks
and what a billow be.

many years ago when we lived
in kazakhstan i saw my first snow. mom
woke me up, led me to the step stool, to
the window, let me watch white noise and
said - winter has come and so does your birthday

every year i think of it, smile

nothing ever goes nowhere and my heart
grows every day because of these memories,
new memories, you.
